Rather than whinge on about the 34th snowstorm to come knocking on our door since January (sarcasm, yes, but only just a little- we did get another 6 inches over the weekend), I’d rather show you the most hopeful things in the house right now.
(Please start watching Schitt’s Creek if you aren’t already. I apologize in advance if it isn’t your sort of thing, but it is so very much my sort of thing that I have to shout it from the rooftops so that everyone can bask in the laughter and ridiculousness.)
In any event, I am (as always) thrilled to pieces when this never-say-die Fig sets fruit for us. Last count there were 14 bebes on the tree and I’m as proud as can be.
I’ve been keeping it in the sunniest spot in the dining room and its been getting regular feedings (like every 5 weeks) of comfrey tea (leftover from this summer). It needs a potting up, but I’m always hesitant to do that once the fruit has set, so that will likely be a late-summer project just before it comes back into the house.
In any event, while I wait for all this snow to melt, I’m going to daydream about sun-warmed ripe figs. Delicious!
