Have you heard? Stachys ‘Hummelo’ is this year’s Perennial of the Year. Who knew? (And who votes on these things? – Apparently its the Perennial Plant Association!?)

I’m feeling quite pleased with myself as 2 years ago at an end-of-season sale I snagged two overgrown but sad plants for something like $4.00 total and brought them home. I divided each up into thirds and planted them in the nursery bed. There they stayed until last fall when I popped them into the new bed in the Dry Cottage garden.
They are happy and growing nicely and now I can say that I’ve had this lovely little plant in my garden all along (or nearly!).
Do any of you have Stachys ‘Hummelo’ in your garden? What’s your take on the 2019 Perennial of the Year? Is it something you’ll add to your space if you don’t already grow it?
Looks like something that needs to find a spot at my place for sure!

I grew it at the herb farm, but didn’t move any over to my home gardens…it’s too pink! But a nice plant for butterflies and very tidy foliage.

It is tidy! The pink is certainly bright, but I don’t find it overly showy or bossy so for now it can stay!

I don’t have it, but there is lots of ‘Hummelo’ growing at the Lurie Garden here in Chicago.
